A deadly train crash in the southern state of Oaxaca has claimed the lives of at least 13 people, an incident likely to revive critical opposition regarding the rapidity and execution of the country's major public works projects.
The disaster occurred on the Interoceanic Train, a rail link built to connect the Atlantic and Pacific across the thinnest stretch of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. This endeavor was created to provide an alternative rail cargo route to the Panama Canal, with the goal of spurring commercial progress in the area.
“We are going to rigorously clarify the reasons behind this accident,” affirmed the head of state.
The official reported that, of the approximately 250 passengers on board, another 98 were injured, with five of those in critical condition. The leader stated plans to travel to Oaxaca to meet those impacted.
